Video Games

Growing up I have had many exposures to video games and computer games. My father and my little brother both got addicted and we saw the consequences. I also believe though that online games and some computer games can in fact help you in education and other purposes. I really enjoyed the lecture about video games and how playing games actually helped the surgeons become better surgeons. Like the apostles say I think great things can come from the media and we need to embrace those and make great use of them.

Tuesday Devotional

I was quite shocked to find out that during BYU's weekly devotional that they mentioned the media and how it effects people and their images on themselves. The media is a strong tool, that sends out messages to others that can be good and bad. It is very important to realize the good and not focus on the bad. Media and Hollywood has set a certain standard on how one should look, act and dress, not keeping reality in mind. My niece and nephew have taken so much from children shows and their language has been expanded by what they watch and view on television. We need to be more careful on what they watch and see.

What I noticed this week..

I still can't believe how media effects people. Certain movies, tv shows and music can do so much good, or soo much damage. I remember earlier on this week, thinking how disgusting television shows are getting, One example are the shows on the E! channel. This channel has a "news" station where they report on all the latest Hollywood news, and some of the stuff they report are just so stupid, like "So in So" ate a sandwich, or they report on a celebrity who spent over 2 grand on a pair of shoes, and it makes the headlines. What ever happened to real news?
Also this week I got to watch a show called Extreme Engineering and that TV show was used to educate us and I learned a whole lot on how big freight ships get through the Panama canal, it was actually very interesting.

We just need to learn to watch shows that better ourselves instead of makes us more shallow.
